Coming this month: Shelters and shuttles and shrubs! Oh, my!

For several months, shuttle buses have been ferrying patients, employees and visitors to and from the Heart Center and other locations around the campus.

This month, passengers will notice other improvements in that free service. Four shelters will be built in the outlying parking lots on the east/northeast side of the campus, offering riders more security and convenience. Shuttle buses make regular circuits from 5 a.m. to midnight, Monday through Friday. A bus is equipped with a wheelchair lift, can accommodate 12 passengers.

More than 1,600 new parking spaces have been added, bringing the campus total to 3,119.

Other visible signs of progress are taking root in September. Initial landscaping is set to take place with the planting of trees and shrubs, reports Brian Phillips, project director with Tonn and Blank Construction.
